National Blue Ribbon School 2018

Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos recognized 349 schools as National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2018 based on their overall academic excellence or their progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups. These schools demonstrate that all students can achieve to high levels. The Department will formally recognize the 300 public and 49 private schools at an awards ceremony at the Omni Shoreham in Washington DC on November 7 and 8, 2018. The 2018 cohort represent public and non-public elementary, middle and high schools, including traditional, charter, magnet schools, parochial and independent schools in 47 States, the District of Colombia and Department of Defense Education Activity schools in Fort Benning, Georgia, Germany and the United Kingdom.

The National Blue Ribbon Schools award affirms the hard work of students, educators, families, and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging content. The National Blue Ribbon Schools flag gracing a school's building is a widely recognized symbol of exemplary teaching and learning. National Blue RibbonSchools are an inspiration and a model for schools still striving for excellence. Now in its 36th year, the U. S. Department of Education has bestowed this coveted award on more than 8,800 schools.

National Title I Distinguished School 2017

DATE:  January 31, 2018

Washington D.C. – Sixty-three U.S. schools have been named 2017 National Title I Distinguished Schools either for exceptional student performance overall, for significantly closing the achievement gap between student groups, or for excellence in serving special populations of students.

A project of the National Title I Association, the National Title I Distinguished Schools Program publicly recognizes qualifying Title I schools for the outstanding academic achievements of their students.  We celebrate the efforts of schools across the country making significant improvements. The program has been in place since 1996, acknowledging the success of hundreds of schools in one of three categories:

  • Category 1: Exceptional student performance for two consecutive years
  • Category 2: Closing the achievement gap between student groups
  • Category 3: Excellence in serving special populations of students (e.g. homelessness, migrant, English learners, etc.)

Title I is the cornerstone of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. It is the largest federally funded pre-college education program in the United States and provides funding to school districts to aid in the education of economically disadvantaged students.

The National Title I Association implemented the National Title I Distinguished Schools Program to highlight selected schools that have successfully used their Title I federal funds to improve the education for economically disadvantaged students. More information about all National Title I Distinguished Schools is available on the National Title I Association website: www.titlei.org.

The 2017 Distinguished Schools will be honored February 9, 2018 at the 2018 National Title I Conference in Philadelphia, PA. Download List of 2017 Schools.  (States not listed did not participate in 2017.)
